“The chief beauty about time is that you cannot waste it in advance. The next year, the next day, the next hour are lying ready for you, as perfect, as unspoiled, as if you had never wasted or misapplied a single moment in all your life. You can turn over a new leaf every hour if you choose.” Arnold Bennett
The first morning of 2018 came with the gentle cloak of fog that obscured the path ahead. I was reminded that the present offers clarity that fades away if we look too far into the future or back towards the past. Instead, I will turn to books for this form of enlightenment.
This year, I will be exploring the past through the eyes of writers who lived in different times and witnessed a past that I will never fully understand. And then, there is the recent past: looking back on the books that encouraged and inspired me.
As for the future, I’m taking Arnold Bennett’s cue – there are many new leaves to turn over in 2018.
I look forward to a New Year of profound and joyful conversations.
